Position works a 4 on / 4 off schedule, 3rd shift hours are 2100 – 0700.  



At Transport America, we make sure the Customer and the Driver are supported 24/7. The Evening Transportation Specialist is staffed on 2nd shift or 3rd shift, with a 4 on 4 off schedule, including weekends. Specifically, this position is responsible for: 

  • Providing a work environment that focuses on delivering excellence, multi-tasking, problem solving, and managing mutual accountability
  • Building a positive working relationship with an assigned fleet of drivers
  • Maintaining or exceeding 98% on-time performance for customer base
  • Security gate monitoring via video monitors
  • Supporting business improvement by meeting personal and departmental goals and objectives timely and effectively



Day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Dispatch and track drivers and ensure they have necessary information to be safe and deliver loads successfully
  • Respond to Driver messages, problem solve and provide necessary information to enable Driver to service the customer in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively to Drivers the requirements and expectations of the Customers
  • Monitor the execution of customers' loads
  • Communicate critical information to appropriate customer base
  • Deliver service that exceeds the customer's goals & TA's service objectives
  • Acceptance of freight via EDI, phone, email and entering data into system when applicable
  • Take initiative and independently identify solutions for the customer, engage peers and leadership when necessary
  • Understand region, network & customer expectations
  • Match loads and drivers to meet TA's Customer commitments while maximizing the utilization of TA's assets, working with Operations personnel
  • Contact appropriate groups timely to resolve equipment issues
  • Communicate critical information and concerns to appropriate daytime employees
  • Security monitoring


Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support for loads carrying Hazardous Materials
  • Provide support for loads that will transit via Rail
  • Provide support for loads transiting into and out of Canada



  • Ability to write daily reports with clarity
  • Dependable
  • Good judgment and familiar with standard concepts, practices within safety and security
  • Must be flexible and posses the ability to function in stressful situations
  • Some college education preferred or equivalent experience, transportation management training preferred
  • Knowledge of the transportation industry and DOT safety requirements for Drivers and carriers preferred
  • Strong PC, phone & organization skills
  • Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively copes with change and is energized by tough challenges
  • High attention to detail and strong work ethic
  • Fluency in English
